How to Use
- Enter total marketing AND sales spend for the period — include salaries, tools, ads, and agency fees.
- Enter the number of NEW customers acquired in the same period (don't count renewals).
- Read your CAC. Compare against your average Lifetime Value to confirm LTV / CAC ≥ 3.
- Then measure your return on ad spend by channel, and check your burn rate runway to confirm you can afford to keep paying CAC.
Formula Explained
CAC = Total Sales & Marketing Spend / Number of New Customers Acquired
- Total Spend
- = Ads + salaries + tools + agency + creative production within the period
- New Customers
- = Net new logos/buyers in the same period — exclude renewals and expansion
Worked example: $10,000 spent in a month, 50 new customers acquired. CAC = $10,000 / 50 = $200. If average LTV is $700, LTV / CAC = 3.5 — healthy.
